Local Nature Studies

Status:Active, open to new members
Coordinator:
When: On Wednesday mornings
4th Wednesday of the month

We meet on the 4th Weds of each month – usually 10.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m.

Since the the group started in April 2021, we have been exploring the various limestone and gritstone habitats around Wirksworth, which are extraordinarily rich with plants, animals and fungi. By arranging a theme and location suitable for each season of the year, the aim is to find things out and increase not only our identification skills but also our understanding of ‘how it all works’. Group members are invited to plan and lead on topics they are interested in.

We sometimes stray further afield. Click on the link to the right of this page to see a list of what we've been doing so far.

Walking up to 3 miles might be involved, taking our time. Whatever we plan to see, there are bound to be surprises!

Sniff things out, share what you know, take photos, look things up, astonish the grandchildren with your knowledge!
